Message: OHIO PARENTS FOR DRUG FREE YOUTH YOUTH GRANT APPLICATION Eligibility: Any 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit youth group or youth serving an organization, school or community-based group in the State of Ohio who have as their purpose, or a component of their purpose, the prevention of substance abuse may apply for funds for tobacco, alcohol and other drug abuse prevention projects. Submit IRS form with application. Availability of Funds: Up to $ 1,000 is the maximum that can be awarded to a youth group. The deadline for submitting applications is November 3, 2005. Applications received after this date will not be accepted. Approved grant recipients will be notified in December 2005. Reporting Requirements: All projects will be required to submit a final report of activities, report of expenditures, and copies of any materials developed with this grant as well as copies of any publicity the project received to Ohio Parents for Drug Free Youth within 30 days of the project’s completion. Requirements: 1. Complete the enclosed cover sheet and attach to the narrative answers, budget sheets and worksheet 2. Enclose 501 (c) (3) IRS form 3. Message: Grant Opp - Music Ed Research International Foundation for Music Research Invites Proposals for Music Education Research Deadline: November 1, 2005 Sounds of Learning: The Impact of Music Education is a major research initiative designed to examine the roles of music education in the lives of school-age children. The goal of the project is to expand the understanding of music`s role in a quality education. To that end, the International Foundation for Music Research ( http://www.music-research.org/ ) has announced a second round of funded research with additional funding provided by the Fund for Improvement of Education from the U.S. Department of Education ( http://www.ed.gov/ ) and the Grammy Foundation ( http://www.grammy.org/foundation/ ). The Sounds of Learning initiative seeks research about music education`s intrinsic and extrinsic benefits. A major goal of the project is to examine music education`s influence on: (a) achievement and success in school; (b) all aspects of a child`s growth and development; (c) the uses and functions of music in daily life; and (d) home, school, and community environments. The initiative will look to these research outcomes along with other research to fuel ongoing policy debates about what constitutes a meaningful and quality education for America`s children. Message: Subject: Grant Opp - Hi School Art Surdna Arts Teachers Fellowship Program Invites Applications Deadline: November 18, 2005 (Letters of Intent) The Surdna Foundation ( http://www.surdna.org/ ) is pleased to announce the sixth round of the Surdna Arts Teachers Fellowship Program, a national initiative to support the artistic revitalization of outstanding arts teachers in specialized, public arts high schools. Surdna`s goal is to help arts teachers in public arts high schools increase their effectiveness as they guide and train young people for careers or advanced study in the visual, performing, and literary arts. The foundation believes that if teachers can immerse themselves in their own creative work and interact with professional artists/ colleagues, they will bring new ideas and practices into the classroom. The program will enable selected teachers to create art with professionals in their fields, stay current with new practices and resources, and create new bodies of work. Twenty awards of up to $5,000 each will be made. A complementary grant of $1,500 will be awarded to the fellow`s school to support post-fellowship activities. All permanently assigned full- and part-time arts faculty in specialized, public arts high schools are eligible. Teachers of the visual arts (including film, video, and other media), theater arts, music, dance, and creative writing are invited to apply. Applicants must have been teaching arts in high school for a minimum of five years and plan to continue as an arts teacher in 2006-07. Message: Volunteers Invited to Participate in Make a Difference Day Projects Deadline: TBA Make a Difference Day is a national day of community service sponsored by USA Weekend Magazine and its more than six hundred carrier newspapers. Held in partnership with the Points of Light Foundation ( http://www.pointsoflight.org ), the day is an annual event that takes place on the fourth Saturday of every October. The next event will take place Saturday, October 22, 2005. Paul Newman, who donates all after-tax profits from sales of Newman`s Own products ( http://www.newmansown.com ) to educational and charitable purposes, continues his support of Make A Difference Day, and this year will donate $10,000 each to ten selected projects. These ten honorees, plus hundreds of local honorees, will be spotlighted in an April 2006 issue of USA Weekend coinciding with National Volunteer week, as well as on the program`s Web site. Anyone can participate in the day by participating in a volunteer project that helps others. Volunteer projects can be large or small, and can be one-day, stand-alone projects or part of ongoing efforts. After participating in a project on Saturday, October 22, volunteers should send in an entry form to be considered for an award. (Volunteers who cannot participate on Saturday for religious reasons, may do their projects on Sunday.) Message: Nominations Invited for Volvo for Life Awards Deadline: January 15, 2006 A philanthropic program of Volvo Cars of North America, Volvo for life Awards are made to individuals for their achievements in three categories that reflect Volvo`s core values: Safety, Quality of life, and Environment. The program`s Grand Award Winner receives A Volvo for life and $50,000 to a charity of his or her choice. The three Category Winners receive $50,000 to a charity of their choice. The six Category Finalists receive $25,000 to a charity of their choice. In addition, the program`s Alexandra Scott Butterfly Award will honor one child hero with $25,000 to a charity of his or her choice. The program will also present a Volvo for life Friendship Award for Best Buddies members. This awardee will receive: $25,000 ($10,000 of this will be awarded to their local Best Buddies state office, $5,000 to their school chapter, and $5,000 each to winning buddy pair). Best Buddies ( http://www.bestbuddies.org ) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of people with intellec- tual disabilities by providing opportunities for one-to-one friendships and integrated employment.
